Dwarf Frogfish (Antennarius pauciradiatus) spend most of their life living in shallow tropical and subtropical water worldwide. They're ambush predators who use lures to attract their prey; they then gulp and swallow up the fish as the fish passes by.
Slow-motion filming has shown that Frogfish suck in prey in 6 milliseconds! It's so fast that other animals cannot see it happen. Blink and you'll miss it too. This guy was chilling at Blue Heron Bridge today, just north of the East bridge. |
